Walt Disney’s Dream
Sitting on a dirty park bench, Walt Disney first dreamed up
is first ideas of his own theme park. These ideas eventually lead him to build
his own studio theme park.
One of Walt’s first plans was to build ‘Mickey Mouse Park’,
right across the animation studio in Burbank on a small lot across the street.
His ideas simply were too big to be held on only a few
acres, so he started the search for a bigger area to build his dream of
Disneyland.
An orange grove in Anaheim, ca was found and chosen for the
magic kingdom. Given its convenient spot, near the highway and on the way to
the beach, this was the perfect spot for Walt to build is dream.
Construction started in July 1954, with opening EXACTLY only
one year of construction. Given its short timescale, construction had to be
fast. They were so short on time that they couldn’t build both bathrooms and
water fountains. For this Walt said: "People can drink Coke and Pepsi, but
they can't pee in the street."
Disneyland opened on July 17th 1955. Walt finally
had his dream realized. A place where families, parents and children, could
have fun together. Here is Walt Disney’s
dedication Disneyland on opening day:
Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world. - Walt Disney
